Vehicle communication (V2X) technology is poised to permeate every aspect of daily life, necessitating advanced features to enhance its efficiency, reliability, and support for autonomous driving. The concurrent emergence of LTE-Advanced and the introduction of Sidelink connectivity offer a promising solution for effective vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Sidelink enables direct communication between devices without base station intervention, enhancing the reliability, speed, and data rate of safety-critical transmissions. This paper discusses various Sidelink releases under the 3GPP framework, spanning from Release 12 to 17 (referred to as 5G NR V2X). It elaborates on all associated Sidelink channels, signals, and their resource allocation across different transmission modes. Furthermore, the paper presents throughput and Bit Length Error Rate (BLER) graphs across multiple Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) points, emphasizing the critical role of Sidelink in advancing autonomous vehicular communication.
